step 01 / 15
print at the right scale
Print at actual size, then lay a ruler on the test bar: exactly 50 mm. At 48 mm, the whole cup would come out 4% too small. The tutorial has you check before the first snip.
new · template + 3D tutorial
A small slab-built cup that sits on a foot ring. Four printable templates, recalculated for your clay, and a 3D tutorial that walks you from the printer to drying, one gesture at a time.

The full tutorial has 15 steps. Here are six: scroll and go step by step and the scene replays each gesture. Drag it to turn around.
step 01 / 15
Print at actual size, then lay a ruler on the test bar: exactly 50 mm. At 48 mm, the whole cup would come out 4% too small. The tutorial has you check before the first snip.
step 03 / 15
No need to hunt for a tube of the right diameter: template D rolls up to the “align here” line. It matches the exact inside Ø of your raw cup, then crumples to come out without marking the clay.
step 05 / 15
Templates A, B and C go on the slab. Holding the needle straight up, follow each edge in one stroke. Your clay's shrinkage is already built into the measurements: no correcting by eye.
step 09 / 15
The two 45° bevels meet around the mandrel with no extra thickness. The strip is 218.8 mm long: the circumference at mid-thickness, plus what the bevels take up.
step 13 / 15
A few hours later, the cup has already done 40 % of its shrinking. The tutorial gives the measurements at that stage: the foot circle is drawn on the banding wheel, 19.5 mm from the center, and the ring kept under plastic lands right on it.
step 14 / 15
A well-wrung sponge over the wall, then a damp strip of chamois folded over the rim: two turns of the banding wheel round it off without flattening it.

what you get
A one-time purchase of €4.99. Everything opens in the Gabarits Céramique tool you already know.
Wall A, base B, foot ring C and mandrel D. Set the diameter, the height, your clay's shrinkage and the slab thickness: everything recalculates. In espresso size, all four fit on a single sheet of card stock.
15 steps, from printing to drying. Move on by click or scroll, each gesture replays, and you can spin the scene with a finger to see it from every angle.
Clay shrinks as it dries, then as it fires. Every measurement in the tutorial is given at the stage you take it: raw, leather hard or fired. No more shrinkage maths on the back of an envelope.
before you start
An hour and a half of work, then a few hours' wait for the cup to reach leather hard.
≈ 1 h 30 of work, then 2 to 4 h before attaching the foot ring
Measurements for a 12 % shrinkage. A taller 8 cm (18 cl) version can also be set in the tool.
Just the clay is missing.

The tutorial stops at drying. Bisque, glaze and glaze firing depend on your clay and glaze. Keep glaze off the foot ring.
